Gain a deeper understanding of both the Tonsina trail and general Seward history. While taking in views of the forest, mountains and ocean, gain a knowledge of the plants and wildlife you may pass along with a local’s insight on both the past and present of the area. Your guide is a 3rd-generation Sewardite! Your trip will come with hiking poles, snacks, water, and a bear-prepared guide.
Take a walk through the mossy forest to emerge out onto Tonsina Beach with a stunning view of Resurrection Bay and the many surrounding mountains. Not extremely strenuous, but note that much of the hike is uphill with some steeper downhill sections. Learn about some of the important historical figures of Resurrection Bay, the area’s role in World War II, and an understanding of the beautiful animals and plants that inhabit the trail system.
