If you’ve ever wanted to learn how to surf, there’s no better place to learn than Hawaii where the sport of surfing began. During this 2-hour Oahu surfing lesson, you’ll ride the waves of Barbers Point on the western end of the island, where the gentle waves and lack of crowds make perfect conditions for learning. While here, your instructor will teach you the proper techniques for paddling and popping to your feet, and lessons are available as private instruction or in groups of up to four.
Your tour begins with a hotel pickup from your Ko Olina resort, before heading out to Barber’s Point to meet your instructor.
You’ll be matched with the proper board for your height and will start your lesson in the sand, where you’ll learn the proper methods for paddling and standing up on your board. When you’re ready to get out and ride the waves, your instructor will help you with paddling out and finding the best place to sit, and will even offer a gentle push to help get you into the waves.
Since the lesson on the sand only takes a few minutes, you’ll have lots of time to spend in the water and practice riding the waves, and you might be surprised how quickly you catch on to this ancient Hawaiian sport.
