2.5 hour Photography class of no more than 6 participants around the Santa Monica ocean front and Pier.
Meeting up at the Camera Obscura Bldg–1450 Ocean Ave– I will lead the students through a tutorial covering basic DSLR camera usage, the basics of visual communication theory and an introduction to visual/photographic composition. Using anecdotal true stories from my experiences as a commercial photographer, examples of my work and easy to understand explanations of camera function, theory and composition I will give each student the building blocks that will make them better photographers every time they use their camera or iPhone camera.
We then walk the pier and surrounding area capturing images based on small assignments I have devised so as to begin understanding and using the techniques discussed during the tutorial. All the while I will be checking in on each students progress and give positive critical assessment and suggest strategies for improving their images.
I have written this to install critical thinking that will deepen their understanding of photography whether they turn pro or just shoot great vacation pics to WOW their friends and family back home.
