The Dallas Municipal Building is a Dallas Landmark located along S. Harwood Street between Main and Commerce Street in the Main Street District of downtown Dallas, Texas that served as the city’s fourth City Hall. After the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, Lee Harvey Oswald was arrested and jailed in the Municipal Building on November 22, 1963. Two days later, he was fatally shot by Jack Ruby while being led out by police in the basement garage.

Called the “birthplace of Dallas”. It was the location of the assassination of U.S. President John F. Kennedy, on November 22, 1963. The Dealey Plaza Historic District was named a National Historic Landmark in 1993 to preserve Dealey Plaza, street rights-of-way, buildings and structures by the plaza visible from the assassination site, that have been identified as witness locations or as possible locations for assassins.

The grassy knoll is a small, sloping hill inside the Dealey Plaza and adjacent by the former Texas School Book Depository. It became well known following the assassination of John F. Kennedy. The knoll was above Kennedy and to his right (west and north) during the assassination on November 22, 1963.

Numerous witness accounts describe Oswald on the run after shooting Officer Tippit at the intersection of 10th Street and Patton Avenue. Taxi driver William Scoggins claimed Oswald, revolver in hand, muttered something along the lines of “Poor dumb cop” as he headed away from the site of the Tippit ambush on his way to the Texas Theater.

You can skip the line and go directly to the visitors’ desk to collect your headsets equipment for a self-guided tour, the museum visit generally takes 40-60 minutes.
