Discover the towering Giant Sequoia trees of Yosemite during the winter on this half-day snowshoe hike. Hike through the Tuolumne and Merced groves to marvel at these 3,000-year old trees that reach heights upwards of 300 feet. Traverse the dense forests with hiking shoes or snowshoes, if there is a lot of snow on the ground, and learn about the biodiversity of the park.
Winter is an amazing time to take in Yosemite’s rare groves of Giant Sequoia trees. As the summer/spring crowds clear out, the Tuolumne and Merced Groves become secluded, peaceful hiking trails accentuated by the towering Sequoia trees reaching out of view. The Giant Sequoias grow up to nearly 300 feet high/26 feet in diameter, making the the largest living things on Earth, and can live to be over 3,000 years old. If there is a considerable amount of snow on the ground, this trip becomes a peaceful snowshoe through the snow blanketed groves.
