Whether you’re a Detroit local or a tourist in the city, this Mediterranean-inspired cooking class is a great way to learn something new and eat well. In the home of your enthusiastic home-chef instructor you’ll have a go at preparing a number of dishes with seasonal produce. Your instructor’s home is in a characterful old building, and after your lesson you can enjoy your creations out on the patio.
Meet your host Lynne at her home in Detroit, a unique residence that used to be a bank built in the 1920s with a lovely patio. Sip on a refreshing drink as your host shares stories about living in Detroit before joining her in her kitchen, to learn to cook a Mediterranean inspired seasonal meal. As much as possible, Lynne uses fresh, local produce from her vegetable garden or that she purchases from farmer’s markets. During your hands-on cooking class, learn to knead, roll and grill flatbread, create a delicious salad and learn techniques involved in making sauces that accompany your main dish. A confidence-inspiring cook, Lynne encourages you to cook based on what you taste, see and smell. You will learn to cook three dishes from scratch during your cooking lesson that lasts about 1.5 hours. After cooking, sit down at the table to share the fresh, seasonal meal you helped prepare with Lynne. Your menu might include dishes such as sautéed summer corn with shitake mushrooms and garlic, trout from Lake Huron with a cilantro chimichurri and grilled flatbread with a yoghurt and cucumber sauce. Lynne knows a lot about wine and offers a natural wine pairing with your food.
