Roosevelt Memorial, where quotes and statues tell the story of his unprecedented four presidential terms. Continuing on, we'll visit the Korean War Veterans Memorial. Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial



The tour guide will discuss the symbolism of the memorial design by architect Ed Jackson Jr. The mountain and stone evoke the struggles Dr. King overcame, while the split in the mountain behind King represents the “stone of hope” hewn from a bigger rock.

travelers will approach the monument from 15th Street NW and get to view the monument in its entirety from the grounds surrounding it. The guide will provide information and history about the construction of the obelisk, which was built to honor George Washington, the first president of the United States.
Travelers will be able to walk around the circular plaza at the base of the monument and see the Commemorative Stones that surround its exterior. Each stone was donated by a city, state or organization to help fund the monument’s construction.
The guide will point out interesting details on the monument’s exterior, like the difference in shade of the marble stones caused by varying densities. Travelers can also see memorial stones installed to honor the workers who died during the monument’s construction.
