Upon takeoff from Talkeetna you will instantly be met with magnificent views of the Susitna valley and, in the distance, The Alaska Range. Our pilots are intimately familiar with this country and will point out sights on the way, as the terrain gradually changes through the foothills of the Alaska Range.

View The Mountain House that was built here in 1960’s by our namesake Don Sheldon as a climber refuge and private retreat is a popular overnight destination to this day. On the far side of the amphitheatre you will see Mooses Tooth, Bear Tooth and Broken Tooths dramatic peaks that serve as popular climbing destinations.
To top it off you will experience the immense Ruth Gorge on the way back to Talkeetna. The Great Gorge, as it is sometimes called, is a mile deep in some places. The floor is the rugged Ruth Glacier. Watch for the brilliant pools of bright-blue glacier melt water!

The focal point of our Base Camp Tour is a close-up look at Mount Hunter and the Kahiltna Glacier (Denali’s biggest), and the Kahiltna “Base Camp” where the majority of Denali’s climbers begin their journey, at an elevation of 7,200 feet.
This route also includes all of the highlights of the Southside Sheldon Adventure.
