Immerse yourself in Chicago’s bounty of pizza offerings, and learn about the Windy City’s pizza traditions beyond the classic deep-dish, on this small-group walking tour. Designed by a James Beard Award-winning food journalist, this tour takes place in the city’s vibrant and hip Bucktown and Wicker Park neighborhoods. Meet your group prior to lunch, and be sure to come hungry: you’ll visit four different pizzerias, and will enjoy tastes at each one. As you go, meet the chefs behind the pizza, and learn about Chicago’s culinary traditions.
We’ll start off with a Roman al Taglio style pizza, then walk up and down Damen Avenue, to taste pizzas from three other places, learning about the neighborhood. You’ll taste a classic Chicago deep-dish, a NYC-style slice and a long-fermented artisan pie. Along the way, you’ll meet some of the owners and pizza makers, and learn about their history and inspiration for creating their unique pizzas.
Our “doughcents” are trained to discuss Chicago’s pizza history, and can talk about highlights from the book, “Pizza City USA.”
