We take a small detour out to get some nice cityscape and back-of-the-wharf views, while seeing and learning about the Fisherman’s Chapel and Scoma’s – renowned old-school Italian restaurant that’s always in style.

We double back past our starting point and stop by the iconic ship’s wheel sign marking the heart of the area along with the steamed crab vendors and more classic Italian seafood restaurants.

We end the tour here – just a 5 minute walk to Pier 33. You’ll have time for a quick lunch, or you may want to come back here or another Wharf spot for a less hurried meal.

You will walk on your own from Pier 39 to Pier 33, Alcatraz Landing.
We typically have late date Alcatraz departures, so you should have plenty of time for sightseeing and/or lunch before heading to Pier 33.
Be on time (30 minutes early) to take the ferry out to Alcatraz!

Once it is time for your Alcatraz trip, the round trip ferry & tour of the island (including going inside the prison with the award winning audio tour) typically takes 3 hours. Your pace may be a bit faster or slower, which could shorten or lengthen your stay, as boats return from the island every 30 minutes.
