Providence is the only tall ship in the Washington, DC area. She is an authentic reproduction of the first ship authorized by the Continental Congress to join the Continental Navy in the fight against Great Britain. She is also the first ship to join the navy of Rhode Island – the first of the American Colonies to join the war on the water. During the war, Providence gained a reputation as a fast and lucky ship, largely due to the daring exploits of her captain – the legendary John Paul Jones.
Set sail ! Help the crew haul lines to set the sails, visit the Captain’s Cabin, explore the hold to see where sailors lived, or simply sit back and relax with a drink from the ship’s bar.
This cruise is two hours long and the ship departs promptly at the scheduled time. During the sail, our crew will be available to speak with you all about the history of the ship and its role with the Continental Navy during the American Revolution. Guests are invited to help hoist the sails if they choose, and beer, wine, and sodas are available to purchase at the ship's bar.
