Explore the western shore of Lake Tahoe independently by kayak with a half-day kayak rental from Tahoe City. Booking a rental ahead of time makes it super easy to enjoy a day on the lake without having to bring and launch your own equipment. Soak in the views of forest and granite as you paddle across the crystal-clear waters of this enormous lake, which is surrounded by 12,000-foot-tall (3,660-meter) mountains.
Make your own way to the kayak rental facility near the intersection of the Truckee River with Lake Tahoe. The staff outfits you with all the necessary kayaking equipment, including a sit-on-top-style kayak built for one person.
You can choose to paddle out on the lake in any direction. Lake Tahoe is one of the deepest lakes in the United States and the largest alpine lake in North America, measuring 12 miles (19 km) across and many more miles long. It is recommended that you stay close to shore to avoid the motorboats and jet skiers that zip around the lake.
Take in the granite boulders and towering sugar pines that ring the lake, then return to your starting point on the Truckee River to end your 3-hour rental.
