Superheated rock in the earth’s mantle pushed the crust upward with such force that it cracked. A 240,000 square mile chunk of it was thrust upward. That’s the Colorado Plateau we’re standing on today. All of this happened in the blink of an eye — well, geologically speaking. To us, the transformation was agonizingly slow, taking hundreds of thousands of years.

This stunning spot offers a simply unbeatable vista of Lake Powell and the surrounding landscape. On the near side of the lake you’ll also spot the Wahweap Marina, where folks store their boats between trips out onto the lake.
