The Breakers
The Breakers is the grandest of Newport’s summer “cottages” and a symbol of the Vanderbilt family’s social and financial preeminence in turn of the century America. The building became a National Historic Landmark in 1994 and is a contributing property to the Bellevue Avenue Historic District. You will definitely be amazed by the wealth of Vanderbilt family through the amount of original furnishings in the building.The mansion was named ‘The Breakers’ after the waves that constantly crash into the cliffs below the property.
