Overview

Be one of the very few people on this planet to say that you've dined with reindeer under an Alaskan winter night sky. If the cosmos align, it might be under the aurora borealis (a.k.a. the northern lights), with a milky way backdrop, or under a gentle snow. This one-of-a-kind, truly Alaskan experience includes a hearty northern meal (chile [reindeer or not], sourdough flatbread, and baked potato, with s'mores as a dessert) cooked on an open fire, and bottomless warm beverages to stay toasty. If Jack Frost ever becomes too much, our unique and artistic lodge is the perfect place to warm back up and learn about this eccentric cabin that began as a saloon in the early 1980's. All this is done with our 3 resident reindeer accompanying us along the way, which you'll help feed. Reindeer gotta eat too! This experience is unforgettable and will be sure to leave you entertained, educated, and well fed.

  • Learn about the Grand Canyon’s geological history
  • Shop at the historic Cameron Trading Post
  • Hassle-free transfers from your Flagstaff hotel
  • A small group means more attention from your guide

What To Expect

As you enter The Reindeer Grove , you'll make your way out back behind the cabin to the campfire that is located inside the reindeer pen where you'll get an initial introduction to our reindeer and help us feed them their dinner. For our dinner, we'll then make our way back inside to sit down to a hearty meal of chile (with reindeer or not), potato, sourdough flatbread. You'll get a chance to hear the history of this eccentric cabin starting with its inception as a saloon in the early 1980s, and the story of how your hosts (current owners) became reindeer farmers. For desert, we'll make our way back out to the fire for a s'mores desert (if there's still room!) and some closer interactions (petting and snuggling) with the reindeer. All the while, you'll learn all about what make reindeer so interesting, how they are as farm animals in the subarctic, their history with Alaskans and other parts of the world, other stories of reindeer lore, and much more. The setting is both illuminating and tranquil and you'll walk away from this experience with unforgettable memories and stories all your own.
